The Chattahoochee River originates in the mountains about five miles north of Helen. It flows through Georgia, forms the border with Alabama, and eventually changes its name as it flows into the Gulf of Mexico, near Pensacola. In this mountainous region, the river is best able to support trout. The water is cold, shallow, and is swift flowing at this point.

Just north of town you can fish from the banks of the river, or wade in the river and fish for trout in the deeper pools. As the river winds into town, there is a small park that gives access to the river. Many are the fish that are caught here. The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries stocks the river on a regular basis at several points. This provides an enjoyable sport for the many anglers that come to this area.

Canoes and Kayaks are furnished for your enjoyment, also with tubes, vest, etc., in some of the narrow areas of the river you can get caught up with one of these tubes if you are not careful. As with any outdoor activity, you need to be aware of nature, itself.


The neighborhood has a common area on the “Hooch”. The common area is for launching a canoe, kayak, or tube. You can float to the first bridge (1 hour) 255 bridge and have someone pick you up. You do not have lots of space at this area for swimming, but while floating the Hooch you will find many sandy islands for playing in the water and sun. There are two more bridges. Hwy 115 bridge will take you about 4 hours to canoe to and the 384 bridge is about 7-8 hours and located at Wildwood Outfitters Post. You can pay Wildwood Outfitters to take you back to your cabin.

From the Rock you can go to the common area and float back to your rental.

This is where you will find the ROCK - On the Chattahoochee River.

How did the name ROCK originate? Indian folklore has said the bent trees in the surrounding woods marked a Cherokee trail across the river. The tribe often stopped on "The Rock" to fish and cook their catch in the holes in "The Rock". Today, every Kayaker, canoer, or rafter that has ever been down the "Hooch" knows "The Rock" as a place to rest and relax for a spell.

When standing on the deck of the cabin "The Rock" you have the advantage of overlooking right down on "The Rock" but you are not so close that anyone resting on the "The Rock" will notice you.

On the home page, main task bar, look next to owner login and you will see a tab ~ TRAVEL INSURANCE ~ Please review the benefits. Instead of hundreds of dollars up front, simply pay a nominal fee of $39 then relax, knowing you are covered for accidental property damage.

CSA - Security Deposit Protection Plan covers unintentional damages to the rental unit interior that occur during your stay, provided they are disclosed to management prior to your check-out. The policy will pay a maximum benefit of $5000. Any damages that exceed policy limit will be charged to the credit card on file. If, during your stay at one of our rental properties, an Insured Person causes any damage to real property of the unit as a result of inadvertent acts or omissions, the insurer will reimburse the Insured for the cost or replacement of such property up to a maximum benefit of $5000. Certain terms and conditions apply. Full details of the Security Deposit Protection coverage are contained in the Certificate of Insurance or Insurance Policy.

DEPOSIT PAYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

*(50%) paid day of Reservation

* Security Deposit Protection Plan is a requirement for each reservation
$39.00 charge

*Balance must be paid in full (7) days prior to arrival

*The Credit card holder for any payments, including deposit, must be
present at the time of check-In with a valid driver's license and securing credit card

*Specials or Discounts do not apply to existing reservations and if applied, must be applied
at the time of booking.

*Certain seasons, holidays and festivals have nightly minimum stays

*Must be 21 years of age to make a reservation with Cabin Rentals of Helen and Sautee.

*Master, Visa and Discover Cards, Cashier's Check, or Cash accepted as
payment. We no longer accept personal checks.

RESERVATIONS CAN BE RE-SCHEDULED OR CANCELED WITH NO PENALTY IF:

As long as the change is processed at least (30) days in advance of
reservation and a $50.00 processing fee does apply if cancelled, if
re-appointed to another booking or held in escrow for a future booking
no processing fee charged.

RESERVATIONS CAN NOT BE RE-SCHEDULED IF:

• Less than (30) days of arrival date ~ No Refund ~ No Escrow Hold
The deposit is forfeited ~ unless we are able to replace the reservation
with another booking.

• No exceptions can be made to the Cancellation Policy ~ can NOT be
altered for bad weather, health related issues or family emergencies.
